Former Union Minister and BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand in the alleged rape case of a law student was granted bail by the Allahabad High court on Monday stating that both used each other. He was arrested from Shahjahanpur in September last year after an LLM student from his SS Law College accused him of sexual harassment and blackmail.
The charges pressed against Chinmayanand are Sections 376C (sexual intercourse by a person or persons taking advantage of their official position), 354 D (stalking), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on the directions of the Supreme Court.
The accused filed a complaint that the victim along with three of her friends demanded Rs 5 crore from him and had been blackmailing him, they threatened to release some purported videos of him getting a massage from the law student. However, in December 2019, the victim was granted bail in the case.
The incident came to limelight after the victim posted a live video clip in which she claimed that Chinmayanand had been sexually harassing her. One day later, the victim went missing and was found in Rajasthan after four days. Further, the victim alleged that she was repeatedly raped by him in his ashram and was blackmailed by Chinmayanand for over a year.
