The Hon’ble Supreme Court said that it will entertain the plea of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy after three months who is seeking a direction to the Central Government for declaring the Ram Sethu a National Heritage Monument.
A bench headed by Chief J. S.A Bobde, J. S.A Nazeer and J. Sanjiv Khanna took into consideration of submission of Subramanian Swamy that his application should be listed for urgent hearing for pronouncing Sethu a National Heritage by Archaeological Survey of India.
Ram Sethu is also called Adam Bridge which is a chain of limestone shoals between the South-Eastern coast of Tamil Nadu (Pamban or Rameswaram Island) and North-Western Coast of Sri Lanka (Mannar Island). Ram Sethu holds very special importance for Hindus as according to Ramayana, Ram Sethu was constructed by Vanara Army to rescue Sita who was kidnapped by Ravana.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy won the first round of litigation in which the center accepted the existence of Ram Sethu. Swamy also said that in 2017 union minister called a meeting to consider his demand to consider Ram Sethu as A National Heritage Monument but nothing happened.
The Apex court stated that there are many cases pending before the court and asked Swamy to mention his plea after 3 Months for urgent hearing.
