The Bombay High Court applauded the decision of adoptive parents Dinesh and Jayashree Mohite, residing in Ghatkopar for their initiative and active involvement in adopting another girl child, despite having an own biological girl child.
The Court observed that the couple has been married for 18 years and have an own daughter aged 14 years. The Court also observed that the parents portrayed positive character throughout. They have been celebrating the birthday of their biological daughter and other family celebrations in adoption homes, which indicates their desire to adopt an orphaned child too.
The adoption committee decided on 8th October 2019 in favour of the parents, granting them the permission to adopt after considering the sound financial status of the parents. Thus, 7-month old Geetika was given custody to the adoptive parents.
The self-assessment by the adoptive parents and the assessment carried out by social workers also proved to be sufficient evidence necessary to grant them the custody and parentage of the child. Thus, the petition (Indian Adoption Petition) was allowed by Justice GS Kulkarni and the parents were allowed to change the name of their 7-month old daughter to Adhira Dinesh Mohite.
It is indeed a great move of adopting a girl child, despite having an own biological girl child in this patriarchal society!
