Division bench of Kerala High court headed by CJ Hrishikesh Roy while hearing a contempt petition of an organization named Paristhithi Samrakshana Samithi condemned the irresponsible behavior of the Kerala State Government for providing Civic amenities to the in the ecological sensitive tourist town of Munnar thereby encouraging their illicit activities.

The court on July 17 While considering the organizations plea stated that the government was violating an interim order as the government was providing electricity and water connections to the buildings constructed on the encroached land of Munnar the court said such actions amounted to cheating the public.

The government in it’s defense said that these amenities are necessary for the small business carried out in the locale as they were the main source for livelihood of a large number of people residing in the tourist town.

“The small commercial activity is the livelihood of large number of local persons, who are born and brought up in the locality,” the government said.
