Munnar Encroachments: Kerala HC raps up state government

Division bench of Kerala High court headed by CJ Hrishikesh Roy while hearing a contempt of an organization named Paristhithi Samrakshana Samithi condemned the irresponsible behavior of the Kerala State for providing Civic amenities to the encroachments in the ecological sensitive tourist town of Munnar thereby encouraging their illicit activities.

The court on July 17 While considering the organizations plea stated that the government was violating an interim as the government was providing electricity and water connections to the buildings constructed on the encroached land of Munnar the court said such actions amounted to the public.

The government in it’s defense said that these amenities are necessary for the small business carried out in the locale as they were the main source for livelihood of a large number of people residing in the tourist town.

“The small commercial activity is the livelihood of large number of local persons, are born and brought in the locality,” the government said.

The matter was adjourned for further hearing later.
